People spend more on activities for their children than electricity or holidays. KalliKIds makes sure they spend wisely, picking classes, places to go and services they can trust: Trip Advisor or Go Compare for kids with up-front checking. Parents get to know the best choices and discounts and the activity providers get promoted. KalliKids has 670 providers, a renewal rate of >70% and providers signing up for a third year. The website has smashed its five year targets with 27k hits/month.
KalliKids has two markets:
Parents of 8m UK children.
Parents need free information they can trust, combining parent reviews with up-front checking so they can save time and money and make the right choice for their family.
Providers (300,000 ) children’s activities and services (100 new providers signing up monthly).
Providers get the KalliKids tick of approval to display on their website, entrance door and marketing materials and they get a self-edit profile which is very easy to change and can have up to 80 photos/15 videos. They build parent recommendations online (Kimbalu has 61 reviews) and can be promoted proactively at events, in the parent newsletter and social media.
KalliKids gives parents easy access to reliable information saving time, money and worry. Parents spend lots of money on their kids and they need comfort that their children will be with the right people (eg a disciplined and certified versus fun and pop piano teacher).
Parents relied on word-of-mouth / trial & error to find activities – often wasting time, money and children missing out on experiences. There was no single place to look: each speciality has listings (eg dance, football), there are many websites and magazines with local listings but information is limited / not independent. One KalliKids provider admitted that he wrote the testimonials on his website!
Core recurring revenue is secured with annual provider contracts. Standard prices are £13 to £26 /mth with significant discounts in new regions. The financials assume a hardening of price as volume grows and this has been proven in Sussex at just 1/10th of the target monthly web-hits. Monthly revenue is >£3k and revenue will potentially grow to £2.5m by Y3.
Growth is now radical and accelerating with a new team of 20 “Champions” (commission-only agents) which will be increased to a team of up to 150. The model is proven and the national roll-out is already proving deliverable.
Additional revenue streams include advertising/ sponsorship and multiple add-ons, not yet exploited.
