Chop Chop Restaurants has been operating very successfully in Edinburgh since 2006, serving north eastern Chinese food that has hardly been seen outside China before. The two restaurants turn over £1m between them and have a loyalty membership of over 20,000. Chop Chop was featured on Gordon Ramsay's "F-Word" and was voted Britain's favourite Chinese restaurant in 2010 and again in 2012. Both restaurants hold AA Rosettes. The founders are now ready to roll out the Chop Chop concept across the UK

THE IDEA
Products & Services

Chop Chop is much more than just another Chinese restaurant: everything is unexpected. The decor, ambience, cuisine and serving style are all very different. The north eastern Chinese cuisine menu offers simple ingredients combined uniquely and conjured into gourmet dishes that have enormous appeal to the western palate. Our servers explain the menu and show diners how to make their own traditional dumpling sauce, also highlighting the Unlimited Banquet concept, which offers diners unlimited amounts of freshly-cooked food for a fixed price (£20.25). Diners are all encouraged to enjoy the free membership. The decor is natural and informal, following the style of the food.

Problem Solved

There has been an enormous rise in the popularity of ethnic food, especially Asian, in recent years. This has come about through a growing public interest in more exotic food generally and a rising trend to dine out more frequently than in previous years, particularly at informal restaurants. The appetite for inexpensive, interesting dining experiences continues to grow. Numerous small chains of ethnic restaurants and noodle bars, including Thai, Vietnamese and Pan Asian, have been established over the past five years to meet the rising demand. So far, however, there has not been a recognisable chain of Chinese restaurants. Chop Chop offers a very distinctive, inexpensive dining experience.

Revenue Model

The revenue will derive from sit-in meals (75-85%) and take away meals (15-25%). A key strategy will be to encourage new Rewards loyalty memberships, free of charge. We will also focus on social media, building on the 1670+ Twitter followers and 800+ Facebook likes we already have for Chop Chop. Our unique "Unlimited Banquet" concept, whereby diners can enjoy unlimited amounts of freshly cooked food for a fixed price (currently £20.25), has proved extremely popular. Despite the free membership programme and the "Unlimited Banquet" concept, our gross profit margin will be at least 71%.
