Tips to Help Entrepreneurs Get Motivated

1. Set personal goals

Set personal goals to keep yourself on track. Make sure you write them down as this solidifies the process in your mind. One simple way to do this is to take a piece of paper and write down the most important aspects of your life. Then set goals within those sections. Another way is to do it in a time frame, for example setting weekly, monthly and yearly goals. Remember to keep it personal and always include a section that has nothing to do with work. Keep your goals realistic as not reaching them can lead to frustration and has the opposite effect. Always look at that piece of paper. Constantly remind yourself why you wanted to be an entrepreneur.

2. Have a plan

Having a written set of goals is useless without a plan to execute them. Lacking direction can be a big motivation killer, so a good plan can prevent this. Think of a short term and long term plans and how exactly you can put this in motion. For some people, mind mapping out a situation, setting up a tree diagram or “future planning” can help with staying focused. However, this is personal so you should always do whatever works for you. Set time limits to make the goals feel more pertinent. Planning ahead, having tasks and reminders allow you to stay motivated. However, make sure you do all things in moderation, including planning. Remember that goals and plans are worth nothing if you don’t put them into action.

3. Ask yourself why

Take a look at your plan and your goals and think about why you want to achieve these goals. What do you really strive for? Make a list of reasons and narrow it down to the most important ones. Simon Sinek talks more about this in his book Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action. By writing these things down, it really cements the goal in your mind and gets you more motivated to start putting your plan into action.

4. Make your plan routine

Routines in life allow you to get focused and create new habits.By incorporating your plan into daily routine you become more motivated because it becomes a habit. Look at your written goals and think about how you can set these into motion by making them part of your routine.By doing this, you trick yourself into actually achieving what you set out to do. It becomes natural, which eliminates the procrastination stage. Remember it can take up to 21 days to set a new habit.

5. Focus on achieving balance

Balance is key and you need to set time for yourself. Remember not to neglect your hobbies, make time to see your friends and have fun!Your business is important, but so is your happiness and health. In addition, not taking care of yourself will affect your professional life as well. Reward yourself when you reach a goal, as this will provide incentive and keep you staying passionate. Make sure you incorporate this into your routine.
