REQUIRED MAGIC - Investment Opportunity

After a series of engagements with large enterprises such as Allied Irish Bank and Santander Bank, Required Magic realised that the market needed tools to perform desktop Linux management and migration at scale. With Enterprises increasingly questioning the wisdom of the Windows desktop upgrade cycle, Required Magic have built the tools to allow them to escape to a much more manageable environment. Through their connections with Linux distributors such as Canonical, Redhat and Suse, they have uncovered an untapped market of corporates who wish to migrate from desktop windows.

THE IDEA
Products & Services

Required Magic's main product, Snoopea, integrates with enterprise directory software (such as Microsoft's own Active Directory) to group workers together for automated upgrades from Windows to desktop Linux OS. Leveraging the directory in this manner allows the provision of a customised desktop that performs the functions defined for that user/group and nothing more. With it's own built in scheduler, Snoopea allows re-purposing of workstations for other purposes after hours - running clusters for batch processing, for example.

Problem Solved

Microsoft will be withdrawing support of Windows 7 in 2020. This means that 50-90% of existing machines will need to be replaced at a cost of around £1000 each. Snoopea eliminates this requirement by automating the install of Linux - in place, and zero touch - reducing the unit cost from £1000 to just £50 per system. By integrating with the enterprise directory, Snoopea creates a seamless migration path where the user can log in using their existing user name and password and interact normally with their browser-based systems. The on-going support cost is typically around 10% of the Windows system it replaces.

Revenue Model

A typical installation would involve around ten days of paid consulting work to ascertain the suitability of the environment. By about the third day, the customer should be ready to install the onsite system and commence a pilot. At the successful conclusion of the pilot, they will be ready to move to the roll-out phase. The expectation is that each project would take around 18 months to complete. Ongoing license cost: £20 per machine per annum - allows roll out and ongoing management.
Consulting costs of £1500 per day. - typical engagement takes around 10 days. Additional contracting at local market rate.

Exit Strategy

Sale to a major operating system or tools vendor, or sale to a major systems integrator.
Suse was recently sold by Micro Focus for $2.5 billion (USD)
Redhat is being bought by IBM for $34 billion (USD)

Minimum Target £ 200,000 Maximum Target £ 250,000 Minimum investment amount £ 10,000 Maximum investment amount £ 250,000
