SMASH (SMASHCO LTD) - Investment Opportunity

SMASH was formed in lockdown 2020 by Chris Holmes (former Board Exec @ KFC where he launched their loyalty app platform) as a means to bring industry together in a data-rich movement to promote healthier food. SMASH users can enjoy discounts across almost 500 healthier food products across 90 brand partners (and counting): - In restaurants like Zizzi, Tortilla, Yo! Sushi, Wahacca, Leon, Pho and Chopstix - In supermarkets, with offers on Graze, This, Vita Coco and Whitworths - Online, e.g. Hello Fresh and Simply Cook (and many more) SMASH is free for under 25s, is now generating transaction fee based income and will soon launch a pilot B2C subscription model for over25s.

INTERVIEW WITH ENTREPRENEUR

Talking with Smash's founder Chris Holmes about the company and his journey.

THE IDEA
Products & Services

Since launch in May 2021, SMASH has achieved 57,000 downloads and offers brand customers the opportunity to showcase healthier products both on the app and through SMASH marketing & media channels.

SMASH reviews menu items against nutritional criteria (written based on detailed PHE guidance with Jenny Rosborough, nutritionist for Jamie Oliver), displaying detailed product info on the app. The brands then finance a product-specific discount and work with SMASH to promote these items to drive trial, volumes and awareness.
In grocery, SMASH partners with a large coupon provider to offer vouchers used as cash in supermarkets.

SMASH is also working on B2C and B2B platforms.

Problem Solved

For beneficiaries - we know healthier food is often expensive, out of reach and hard to find. Gen Z love SMASH as it's free, and we believe older users (more engaged with their health/weight) will pay for SMASH to discover healthier & save money on better-for-you options.

For brands - the big marketing budgets that fund HFSS food advertising are under attack. They need support, and new channels to showcase NPD and make healthy food healthy business! They need to move from high cost discounts to targeted, purpose led and shallower discount schemes.

For employers/perk providers/local authorities - SMASH provides a unique solution for financial & nutritional wellbeing.

Revenue Model

SMASH is building revenue streams in 5 key areas:
- Transaction fees (for restaurants and online; royalties for supermarket vouchers issued. Annual hosting fees also now charged) - now live
- Marketing rate card to support brand activations, newsletters, social media posts - live in Jan 2022
- B2C Subscription for those aged 25 and over ("SMASH 25+"), where we will pilot a service with a charge of £10pa - Nov 21
- B2B. Employee benefits providers may offer SMASH to employees looking for a wellbeing solution (at a cost per licence) - Nov 21
- Local authorities - who may offer access to SMASH either as an incentive (e.g. for a health check or to parents on low incomes) - Nov 21
