Night Zookeeper is using education technology to achieve mass market penetration in schools and homes to grow a globally known children's brand. They are creating an identity with longevity and potentially huge value, one that children engage with in schools, homes and retail environments. Currently, children’s brands are built entirely by adults, and it is very hit and miss because nobody really knows what kids want. Using technology, they have been able to co-create a brand alongside 1 million children from around the world. Night Zookeeper is currently transitioning from an education tool to an entertainment proposition, thanks to signing a number of important strategic deals.

THE IDEA
Products & Services

On NightZookeeper.com, children create their magical animals that come to life (e.g. Tamagotchis), which teachers then use to deliver interactive lesson content. The children’s work is then sent to a teacher dashboard and automatically assessed. As well as building brand awareness and reach, the website has generated £100,000 in recurring annual subscriptions during the past 12 months. As part of this funding round, the intention is to create a new direct to consumer offering to support the launch of 6 children's books by their publishing partner Oxford University Press.

Problem Solved

Saving time and inspiring reluctant writers, NightZookeeper.com makes learning fun, inspires creativity and engages children with a magical story. It saves teachers time by auto-assessing children's writing and providing them with a database of ready-made interactive and gamified lessons that they can send to their students. It sells because it inspires reluctant young writers better than anything else currently available on the market and saves teachers valuable time.

Revenue Model

Night Zookeeper just entered a $260m market in the US. In May 2017, they secured their first district sale for nightzookeeper.com in the United States. The Hamilton Southeastern district in the state of Indiana paid $20,000 for 12 schools and a total of 5,000 students to access the platform for a year. They have requested the price be locked at $20,000 for the next three years. Night Zookeeper also sells brand licenses, with more partners joining as awareness grows. Oxford University Press will pay a royalty of 10% per book sale (69p).
In the future, parents will also be able to buy Night Zookeeper digital products and merchandise for their children.
