We are highly selective about the businesses we put forward for investment. But, despite all the rigorous pre-screening we do and information we can provide (such as the companies' pitch documents, which include due diligence questionnaires) we advise all potential lead investors to do their own checking before they make a decision. Depending on the size of the investment you propose to make, your own due diligence would typically range from a company visit and a few questions, to a full and rigorous appraisal, perhaps with outside help. We have guidance and masterclasses to help you ask all the right questions, just talk to one of our investor relations team.
It’s always best to start by talking to our investor relations team. They will help you to understand the process and answer your questions and talk you through our range of pitches. If you want to dig deeper and get involved in the business, they will help you find ways to work with more experienced investors or attend an introductory masterclass.
All investors in a funding round sign an investment agreement, which details the business matters requiring investor consent, warranties and obligations on the company, that keep them on the straight and narrow. We offer all companies an Investment Agreement, for no extra charge, which has been drawn up for Angels Den by a leading law firm to be the best in the industry and contains fair and balanced terms. Any variations to the standard terms relating to a particular pitch are listed separately, meaning that investors only have to read and understand the full Agreement once. Obviously, companies already have an Investment Agreement from previous rounds and, if this is the case, it will be flagged in the pitch documents. And the best bit is you can sign up to it online, wherever you are.
Valuing an early-stage company is an art, rather than a science. Based on our years of experience, Angels Den checks that the valuation is sensible for the stage and potential of the business, before allowing them to pitch to investors. The lead investor conducts due diligence and may negotiate an even lower valuation for all investors.
When the online pitch closes, the investors in the funding round have private access to the dedicated investor relations portal for that company on our platform. Here, the funded companies can provide updates, ask questions and inform investors about further funding rounds.
