OSS will develop a range of innovative baby products using cutting-edge space and other smart technologies. Over the last 10 years childcare equipments have gone through limited innovations with outdated technologies. Existing baby travel cots and travel systems are complicated to deploy and heavy. SpaceCot is a lightweight baby cot (5kg) which can be deployed within seconds. It is developed based on satellite technologies from European Space Agency.
OSS will develop a range of innovative new baby products using cutting edge technology from both the Space sector and F1 industries. Over the last 10 years childcare equipment has seen limited innovation and advances in core functionality specifically in the designs for baby cots & playpens. The team has identified the travel cot market as their first target, because it has seen very little innovation and is right for our first product - SpaceCot. Following the success of SpaceCot the company will then develop a range of innovative baby products, using cutting edge technology and materials, including space technology, over the next 5 years.
Over the last 15 years childcare equipment have gone through limited innovations with out-dated technologies. Existing baby travel cots and travel systems are heavy and complicated to deploy. For example, the existing travel cots are bulky (typically weigh over 11kg and need a car to transport) and take several minutes and many efforts to set up. OSS’s award-winning “SpaceCot” concept uses the mechanism employed to unfurl ESA satellites to create the world’s most portable travel cot. The prototype weighs only 4.5kg and takes less than 3 seconds to erect or collapse using only one hand. Once erected it is highly stable and is more robust than any existing model.
In the current calculation the production costs will be between £25-£35 per unit depending on volumes. According to our feedbacks from retailers, SpaceCot will be distributed to retailers at £100. This will leave a gross margin after production and distribution costs of around £55-£65 per unit. The team will aim to sell 5.5k units within the first 12 month. The sales numbers will then grow to 35k units and 65k units in the following years, selling predominately through distributors in China, Europe and Other Asian countries. The recommended retail price in the shops will be £199,95 incl VAT.
