We provide a unique toolset that measures and tracks ship emissions from a computer on land or at sea. 75 countries have signed up to the UN's "MARPOL" regulations, but none of them have an automated system that can cope with the numbers of ships involved, or can measure emissions to the level of accuracy required. We have a patent pending on our design for the monitor and the tracking software which allows regulators - coastguards and port authorities - as well as shipowners to track vessels.

THE IDEA
Products & Services

We manufacture and fit a tamper-proof device in the ship's exhaust system that detects emissions as the ship travels. The device transmits highly accurate readings to a central hub. Port authorities and coastguards log in to the data hub securely, and track the vessels of interest to them from their offices, or from on board enforcement vessels. Shipowners can see only their own ships. Coastguards can decide whether to board the ship or to take other action. Our system can be interfaced to existing components, but there will be a price advantage in fitting our entire system.Tracking emissions remotely is a great improvement over sniffer methods that have been proposed for enforcement.

Problem Solved

Although there are more than 115,000 ships to monitor, coastguards have no toolset that allows them to track emissions without physically boarding the ships. Most coastguards do not have sufficient resources to inspect more than one ship per thousand of the shipping traffic passing through their areas. Port authorities are also interested in tracking emissions of approaching vessels, to extract higher port fees. Compliant shipowners have an interest in proper regulation and enforcement to protect their own investment in low-emission engines and fuel. Shipowners increasingly need to provide evidence of their carbon, sulphur- and nitrogen-based pollutant footprints to stakeholders.

Revenue Model

We shall sell the entire product set or components of it to ship-owners, together with subscriptions, and on a subscriptions basis only to both regulatory and port authorities. Annual licence fees will be payable for connection to our secure network. Operation of our toolset will be largely intuitive, but we shall also provide basic training in its operation for a separate charge in certain markets. We shall set the base price of the components at a level below the average cost of a ship arrest in key markets to ensure that the business case for the buyers is attractive.
