In the 21st century, all companies strive to be accessible, but currently have no solution to sharing their offerings with the world’s 7M Deaf people, who often struggle to read written English. Signapse is solving this by building automatic Sign Language Translation using Generative AI, aiming to be the "Google Translate for Sign Language". We are currently focused on the transport market and have AI-powered signed announcements live at London Waterlo, Euston and NYC, with agreed expansions to 2 major UK train companies. This funding round will expand our offering to more general use cases, such as video and website translation.

THE IDEA
Products & Services

Signapse is based on 20+ years of world-leading research at the University of Surrey into sign language translation using AI. Our technology enables automatic translation from English into British Sign Language,a major technical breakthrough and the first of its kind. Using advanced computer vision techniques, our generated sign language videos are photo-realistic, meaning they are indistinguishable from a human interpreter.

Our initial product provides automatic sign language transport announcements in train stations, buses and airports. Additionally, we have recently released the ability to translate a clients website or training video into sign language.

Problem Solved

There are 7M profoundly Deaf people globally who struggle to read basic written English, as sign language is their first, and often only, language. The usual solution to this problem is sign language interpreters, but there is a significant shortage in availability.

In the 21st century, all companies are proud of being accessible, but currently have no solution to be Deaf accessible at scale. Additionally, global legislation mandates basic accessibility rights for Deaf customers that cannot currently be met.

Revenue Model

Signapse revenue model is a recurring license for access to our sign language generation API server. For transport companies, this involves a £60k ARR contract to generate up to 2000 sign language messages a day. We justify a recurring model by Signapse owning the license to the videos and the client requesting videos everyday in real-time.

We have already signed up 2 UK Train Operating Companies (TOCs), with 5+ currently in pilots out of a total of 30 TOCs. We have recently scaled to America, signing up an airport and NYC Staten Island Ferry.
