3D LIFEPRINTS UK LTD - Investment Opportunity

3D LifePrints (3DLP) is a leading medical 3D printing organisation that designs and manufactures patient specific devices. 3DLP provides an affordable and efficient way for hospitals to access 3D printing through the provision of a one-stop-shop of hardware, software, technical skills and expertise. The services are provided from an embedded facility within the host hospital, a Hub. The benefits of Hubs include: • Proximity to patient data. • A physical presence to secure the region • Direct access to the surgeons • Immediate delivery of products 3DLP has Hubs within 3 UK hospitals: Alder Hey Hospital, Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and Wrightington Hospital.

THE IDEA
Products & Services

There is now a considerable weight of clinical evidence to show that the use of 3D technologies improves patient outcomes and reduces costs.

3DLP has a variety of product and service offerings that includes: 3D printed patient specific anatomical models for pre and intra surgical planning, 3D printed medical devices for simulation and training, 3D printed cranio-maxillofacial implants and surgical guides. These are created from patient scan data and used to create the personalised medical solutions. 3D LifePrints also offers 3D modelling and virtual planning services from their hubs, and work with a variety of university and institutions on other areas such as prosthetics & orthotics.

Problem Solved

Clinical evidence has shown both (i) improved patient outcomes and (ii) that an operating room time reduction in the order of 10%–20% can be reasonably expected in diverse clinical scenarios using 3D technologies to create personalised medical devices.

However the uptake of 3D technologies by hospitals has been slower than expected. The main reasons for the slow uptake are the complexity of setting up and maintaining a facility. 3D LifePrints provides a complete solution by embedding a 3D printing facility with hardware, software and staffing in the hospital. The service provided by 3D LifePrints will always be cheaper than the hospital setting it up themselves.

Revenue Model

3D LifePrints have 3 main revenue streams: The creation of physical patient specific 3D printed medical devices, 3D data modelling services and the generation of Intellectual Property through close collaboration with clinicians. The majority of this revenue is generated on a contractual basis either directly with the hospital or from medical device companies. The main contracts are with Alder Hey hospital, Oxford University hospitals and De Puy Synthe (a Johnson & Johnson company). The contracts are for the design and creation of patient specific medical devices.
